Chefchaouen is definitely the most photogenic city in Morocco. It became well known for its brightly painted blue buildings and beautiful handmade wooden doors of all shapes in the Medina, which is why it’s called the blue city or the blue pearl of Morocco.

The best way to discover the city is just to walk and get lost in the maze of the tiny blue alleyways, where literally every corner is worthy of a picture. The city gained a lot of exposure in the recent years and grown to be one of the most known destinations, all thanks to Instagram! In this article we’ve selected for you the most famous Instagram spots in Chefchaouen.

We also invite you to follow along with our complete guide to visit Chefchaouen.

The white mosque :

The contrast of the white minaret with the vibrant blue streets makes the perfect mix for a great photo. We recommend avoiding prayer times to take pictures here. During these hours it gets crowded with locals going to the mosque to pray and it will be uncomfortable for you trying to strike a pose.

Calle Sidi Bouchouka

This is one of cutest staircase alleys with colorful tiles that add a nice touch to the solid blue walls. There are also a couple beautiful doors that you can snap here too.

The 3 Littles Doors :

Chefchaouen architecture is quite interesting, and you’ll find these 3 narrow doors aligned next to one another make a perfect couple photo or family shot.

El Ouahabi House :

This is a traditional Moroccan house located in a dead end alley. You’ll often be lucky enough to get a photobomber peering from the windows, just a reminder that this beautiful spot is someone’s home. Try to be discreet and keep the noise down, especially if you’re up early trying to beat the crowds.

Place El Haoutta :

After Place Outta Hammam, this is the second main square of Chefchaouen, there is a cute fountain in the middle and it’s surrounded by cafes.

The Chefchaouen House Entrance:

This is THE Instagram famous picture of Chefchaouen, it’s actually someone’s house entrance who made a considerable effort to add extra decorations, you need to pay a small fee of 5dh in order to take pictures here.

Callejon El Asri :

On your way to Ras El Maa, you’ll find the most photographed street of Chefchaouen city, it’s a stair alley decorated with colorful plant pots.

Top of The Hill of the Spanish Mosque :

This the top view over Chefchaouen at sunset, this place is so special to us because this is where Craig did his proposal back in October 2020.  To find the path, just make your way to the river and follow it upwards until you see an obvious trail leading up the hill. It’s such a romantic spot to watch sunset and you will want to  see how that orange sunset sky melts on the blue city .

The Blue Alley :

This is like a blue mirage, it’s an alley with nothing but deep sky blue colored stairs and doors, it’s famous and very easy to find

Basically Anywhere :

Yes any alley and any door, just wander around the winding streets of the city with no particular direction,  you’ll figure out that there is endless varieties of traditional Moroccan doors, it will be hard to pick your favorite one
